Technically, resume is considered to be the first meeting between the applicant and some of the prospective employers that they desire. However, although there are lots of resume samples available online, what matters most in a resume is how it is nicely done. When it comes to resume writing, it is exceptionally difficult to correct the mistaken entry once the employer already has the resume. - Poor formatting. Resumes should always be easy to look upon to and should not be distracting due to free resume templates that can be downloaded from the internet.
- Typos and grammatical errors. Having the ability to communicate well is one of the good qualifications that most employers seek for, which is why resumes should always be grammatically perfect.
- Not so impressive objective. Objectives should always be straight forward and concise. Flowering and flattering words are really not that impressive.
- Trying to sound “well rounded”. Being a jack of all traits is practically not advisable. For some employers do think that the applicant is not doing great at any one thing, thus unsure on how to assess them.
- Important skills are posted at the bottom of the resume. Important skills should always be located on the top, front and center of the resume so that the HR personnel can easily notice it.
- Listing non-related job information. Relevant information should be the top priority in applying a job and any non-related job information are said to be useless and not helpful.
- Focus on responsibility instead of achievement. Achievements are often mistaken as a responsibility which is why it is best to weigh things first in order to avoid this wrong notion.
- Making it too long or cutting it too short. Too long resumes would make the reader bored and not impressed while too short resumes may let the reader think that the applicant is not interested nor qualified enough to have the job.
- Bragging. Being arrogant can only make the applicant disliked and least wanted to have, which is why excessive praising on oneself is basically not advisable at all.
- Invalid contact information. One of the most important factors that applicants should never get wrong with for it is the only way the consumer can reach its applicants.
